Description: Hi Petko,

Is it a problem to add Localization as entry in the intermap.txt file, and make it part of the next PmWiki distribution?

Localization: http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/Localization/

This way the linking to every page of this group, which is not part of the distribution, will be easier and shorter from the different PmWiki localizations. Because now I have to add the full path every time to not break the link when PmWiki is used from a local installation. -- SchreyP April 05, 2010, at 05:05 AM

I am not sure if we should call it "Localization:" as this may interfere with some real life usage on other wikis -- for example, a wiki about a software could use such a prefix for something else. We could use "PmWikiLocalization:" but it is very long.

I wonder if we could just use the PmWiki: prefix in the documentation and simply redirect the pages, like PmWiki.Localization to Localization.Localization, PmWiki.StateOfTranslationTemplate to Localization.StateOfTranslationTemplate -- the pages already have unique names. What do you think? I wonder if the Localization/ group is likely to have more pages than now. --Petko May 07, 2010, at 05:35 AM

I agree that "Localization:" is maybe too generic, but "Cookbook:" is this too.
"PmWikiLocalization:" is indeed long, but "PmWikiL10n:" could be a nice replacement.

I don't like the "PmWiki:" prefix with redirects. I agree the group is currently not big. I plan some more pages, but it will never be 100+. On the other end, if we are serious about localization for PmWiki, we should give this some better support than working with redirects.

Another option I can live with is moving the "PmWikiHome:" intermap from Site.InterMap to intermap.txt, and move group "Localization" to "L10n". After that I can use "PmWikiHome:L10n.", and other existing or new groups can take advantage of the new intermap in the core software. But we will have to keep redirects from group "Localization" for some pages to group "L10n" for some time.

My preference is "PmWikiL10n:" -- SchreyP May 07, 2010, at 06:25 AM

Added prefix PmL10n: following the discussion. --Petko November 10, 2010, at 03:08 PM

Thanks! -- SchreyP November 10, 2010, at 03:51 PM

  Testing PmL10n:TranslatingTheFAQ.

Note, pmwiki.org uses a custom function allowing the indexing of backlinks, see PITS:01117.

Does this mean that you added "PmL10n:" also to this function, to treat it as internal link on pmwiki.org? -- SchreyP November 10, 2010, at 04:04 PM

Precisely. --Petko November 10, 2010, at 05:18 PM
