I use Apaches url rewriting facility, as descripted in the cookbook 
receipe (.htaccess)

It really works surprisingly reliable  (sometimes urlrewriting might be 
very tricky - pictures, css, js u.s.w.)
www.blug.ch  (pmwiki is  effectively located in  /pmwiki2.xyz/) 
Urls are only rewritten when they are wikiwords, so most non-wiki 
objects  render correctly  (but you know, if they don't run anymore, 
it's the WikiName like name).
