Thanks to Hans and Jason for suggestions. I'm still interested in finding
out what it is in PmWiki that maximally matches left brackets ([), but I
realise it's a minor gripe.

Almost: the initial desire was that "Gmail" be the only text that is
linked, surrounded by plain/unlinked brackets. For now, I think I'll just
use normal brackets ( ) instead.
