[pmwiki-users] error: "Cannot acquire lockfile"

I'm trying to get a new pmwiki installation up and running. At first, I 
got the "PmWiki needs to have a writable wiki.d/ directory before it can 
continue" error. I ended up creating the wiki.d/ directory manually and 
setting the permissions to 777. Now I'm getting the following error:
 
    PmWiki can't process your request

    Cannot acquire lockfile
    We are sorry for any inconvenience.

I've tried several variations on the permission settings, but nothing 
seems to be working. Any suggestions?
