I like both these ideas, so long as we don't lose the "definition lists
also set variables" thing, because I think that's really cool too.
I don't think definition lists would be a problem, because one has to
deliberately make them, one isn't likely to be typing

:thing: foo

by accident.  Wheras the "Name: stuff" can be naturally used for other
things as pointed out above.

I love this idea!  Because I can use it in my story archive, without
having to go through all the hoops I did to extract things like story
authors.
