Description: When a page is saved, but the content of the page was not changed, the page is not written to disk. So there is no new diff entry in the page history. That's OK.

But there's an entry in the RecentChanges with change summary, author etc. This is a little bit confusing.

There should be no entry in the recent changes either.

Similar problem when saving an empty, but not existing page.

In my opinion, an unchanged page should not even be saved, just re-displayed. --Henning June 08, 2007, at 10:05 AM

How could we know if the author added an edit summary, or wanted to change or remove a previous edit summary, or wanted to change some metadata like {$LastModified} or {$LastModifiedBy}? Some authors even discuss stuff in the edit summary field. --Petko November 11, 2010, at 05:38 PM

My view is that if the content (including title, summary and author) are unchanged, no new version should be changed. If the author want to change the last modified datetime they can actually change the page, eg add a space or final newline. simon November 11, 2010, at 09:39 PM
